Instead of choosing a relaxing holiday in the Caribbean or a big party to celebrate her 60th birthday, in May 2007 Jenny Egan decided to cycle 207 miles of rough terrain over the Trans-Pennine Trail from Southport to Hornsea in aid of FSID.
Accompanied by her son-in-law Jim Barrett, Jenny completed her epic journey in only one week finishing just in time to have a well-earned rest on the day before her birthday.
The rest of the family weren’t allowed to sit back either- Jenny’s daughter Louise and three year old grandson Alex joined in for part of the ride whilst husband Mick provided back-up support in the car.
The family decided to raise money for FSID after Jim and Louise’s first child Ellis died suddenly and unexpectedly in February 2004 at just four days old.
With the support of friends and other relatives, money was raised before and after the event, as well as along the way.
The Barrett-Egan family achieved an incredible total of almost £2000 and described the experience as “well worth it.”
FSID would like to thank the whole family for their support.
