Carol Singathon 2006

Carol Singathon 2006

Imagine singing Christmas carols for three hours non-stop outside on a cold December night. Now imagined getting sponsored for it!

On the evening of 14th December, 50 FSID supporters and staff braved the cold for three hours to take part in our first ever "Christmas Carol Singathon" in an outdoor shopping arcade in the heart of Victoria, London.

Carol booklets had been prepared beforehand and we worked our way through sixty or so carols, some of them sung several times over, to fill up the three hour allocation to passers-by. We had a conductor to guide us and a mini live band for accompaniment. We wore santa hats and were armed with buckets. Some of us even sported a full Father Christmas costumes.

For braving the adverse weather conditions our courageous carollers did not go totally unrewarded. They took a half-time break during which nearby restaurant Zizi's laid on pizza and Spanish bar La Tasca provided mulled wine to thaw them out. Then after successfully completing the three hour stint our triumphant team were invited back to head office for a post-singathon party with food laid on by IT company Wavex.

We asked all our carollers to guarantee a minimum sponsorship of £50 to take part. From sponsorship raised and collecting on the day we can now announce our final total as a magnificent £3607.20

A sister Carol Singathon event organised by supporter Hayley Pritchard that took place in Gwent in the same month  raised £625.23. This bumped up the grand total to an impressive £4,232.43

FSID would like to thank all those who took part, and in particular Wavex  for their generosity, Hayley Pritchard for staging her own event and Zizi's and La Tasca for the refreshments.

A singathon is a fun, social and simple way to raise money. Why not organise your own in your area? Give us a call (020 7222 8003) or email (fundraising@fsid.org.uk) to discuss how you could stage your own.
