A new Department of Health report highlights the CONI scheme to reduce inequalities in infant mortality
The Department of Health recently published their Implementation Plan for Reducing Health Inequalities in Infant Mortality to show what can be done at local level to reduce infant mortality. Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI) is highlighted as a significant contribution to infant mortality.
In addition to effectively promoting the Reduce the Risks messages the report encourages the provision of extra support to high-risk families and particularly where there has been a previous SUDI. Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care Trusts are encouraged to consider the CONI programme. This programme has a proven track record in helping the NHS to provide extra support to these families. CONI is funded centrally by us.
