Over the Bank Holiday weekend from 3rd to 5th May 2008, Edward Skinner and partner Cathryn Garlick held a three-day fundraising event at The Clock Inn in Alfreton, Derbyshire, in memory of what would have been their daughter Keir Elizabeth’s first birthday.
Here they talk about their fundraising efforts and motivation for supporting FSID in their own words:
“On the 3rd May 2008 at The Clock Inn, South Normanton, we had a three day event to raised money for FSID. At 1 O’clock it all started with the Ripley Morris Men doing their dancing and also the Beavers from South Normanton dancing around our May pole, which was lots of fun.
In the evening of the 3rd of May we had a three piece rock band called “Top Gear” who gave a fantastic performance. While customers were listening to the band there was also a free buffet and throughout the evening we collected money for a raffle that was going to be drawn on the Monday night.
On Sunday 4th May (Keir’s first birthday) we had a BBQ and hot pork cobs that we sold to the customers- this raised £117.00 for FSID!
On the evening of Keir’s birthday there was a jazz band called “The Clock All Stars” fronted by Mr. Bill Bailey who had also played on Keir’s naming day on 3rd September 2007. They were second to none and they even played Teddy Bears Picnic which is Keir’s favorite song. Lots of people came to join us and also knowing what the weekend was all about gave to the collection for FSID.
The last and final day of this event was again started by friends and customers dancing around our May pole to folk music, which was provided kindly by our friends Tony, Bob and Sue.
The last evening was planned as a relaxing evening with a charity pub quiz compiled by Keir’s Nanna and the raffle, where we were very lucky as local companies around our area had donated money and prizes. In all the quiz raised £41.00 for the question sheets and the raffle raised £413.30 making a grand total of £625.30 for FSID!
Edward and myself would like to thank everyone that supported us in this event and we hope this will go a little way to help other families not to go through this heart breaking tragedy. While Keir may not wake up with us every morning everyone we will keep her alive in their hearts and with their memories. No parents should have to bury their own baby.”
FSID would like to thank Edward and Cathryn and everyone at The Clock Inn who attended the event for all their wonderful support.
