Reduce the increased cot death risk for premature babies

Reduce the increased cot death risk for premature babies

Premature babies are slept on their front in hospital for special medical reasons.  When they are getting ready to go home these babies should always sleep on the back to reduce the risk of cot death.

We encourage all health professionals to give one of our new "Time to get back to sleep" advice cards to all parents of premature babies and discuss the importance of back-sleeping.

For professionals we have an leaflet "Time to get back to sleep" which highlights the importance of back-sleeping, and addresses commonly asked questions on sleep position for these vulnerable babies.

All neonatal units have been telephoned to ask for their requirements and the leaflets and cards have been sent out.
