Save a Baby Month 2007
During Save a Baby Month 2007, supporters from all over the country took part in our
Great 48 Challenge, undertaking fundraising activities themed around £48 – the amount which we estimate can help save a baby’s life(1).
We asked you to take part in activities such as our Great 48 Quiz, a 48-hour chocolate detox, a 48p cake sale or a 48-minute sponsored jog.
A Mile for Maude was a great success
A Mile for Maude was another hugely successful fundraising activity that many of you will have taken part in. In January, a little girl named Maude died in her sleep, the cause of her death unknown. Maude's mother had been a regular visitor to networking site Mumsnet, and when members of the site heard of Maude's death they decided to do something in her memory.
Mumsnet member Jane Exworthy created a website and invited people to organise their own one-mile walks in their local area. This proved very popular and soon over 60 walks were planned in the UK and overseas. All walks took place on May 12, and participants carried pink balloons in Maude's memory.
Angela Griffin supported our campaign
Our Save a Baby Month campaign was also given a huge boost by the support of Holby City actress Angela Griffin, who gave a number of magazine and online interviews.
Many other magazine, newspaper, radio and television interviews given by bereaved parents and by experts helped remind new parents of the steps they can take to reduce the risk of cot death.
Thank you to our partners
Mother & Baby magazine, thebabywebsite.com, Babies R Us, grobag® and Mothercare supported our campaign too by publicising our advice or by providing prizes for an online giveaway.
We sent an email out to parents asking them to support Save a Baby Month by entering our online giveaway. This led parents to our website, making them aware our work and our advice. Our giveaway received more than 1,400 entries.
We would like to say an enormous thank you to everyone who supported our campaign either by hosting events, donating money or giving their time for radio and TV interviews. So far, we have raised £46,365, and funds are still rolling in.
