Recycling

Recycling

Turn your used printer cartridges, mobile phones, old and foreign currency in to vital funds for cot death research.

Everyone knows that recycling is good for the environment, but did you know that it can also help raise vital cash for FSID’s lifesaving research into cot death and our provision of support and information services for babies and their families.

Mobile Phones and Inkjet Cartridges

Recycling Appeal will give FSID money for every used inkjet cartridge or discarded mobile phone that we send them.

If you use a printer or fax machine, each spent cartridge could earn FSID around £1. Any old mobile phones in your cupboards? Each used mobile phone is worth around £5. Estimates suggest that there are close to 90 million handsets hiding in drawers and cupboards across the UK so if any of these are yours, why not use them to raise valuable funds for FSID? Or why not consider getting your employer involved- recycling is a great way for companies to go green!

Taking part is easy - simply visit www.recyclingappeal.com and click the ‘Recycle Now’ button. If you have products to send in, you will either receive a freepost envelope or a call from a member of the Recycling Appeal team to coordinate a free collection from your home or office- it will cost you nothing! To ensure the funds your products raise are directed to FSID simply insert our name in the ‘Collecting For’ field. Alternatively, you can call Recycling Appeal on 08451 30 20 10 or email lyndsayw@recyclingappeal.com remembering to quote our reference number VEN0018211.

Please note: Recycling Appeal are unable to accept Epson Inkjet Cartridges, toner bottles or ribbons.

Old and Foreign Currency

Over £100 million of foreign currency is currently lying around in UK homes. Please help us turn that unwanted currency into cash for our cot death research and support programmes.

FSID collects:

• foreign notes
• coins of any currency
• old currency that is no longer valid in Europe.

Have you recently been on holiday and have some foreign coins or notes left over? Or do you have any old currency lying around? Now you can recycle them to benefit FSID! We’ve teamed up with Coin Co International Plc to provide a recycling service for all our supporters. This will help raise funds for our invaluable cot death research and information projects. All you need to do is:

1) Collect all of your old and spare foreign currency together.

2) Visit www.coincoplc.co.uk and click on their ‘Collection request form’ or call Coin Co on 01444 253777 and explain to them that you’ve collected some foreign currency and would like it to benefit FSID.

3) They will then instruct you as to how the currency will be collected. If you manage to collect four coffee mugs full or more then Coin Co will send someone out to you, otherwise they’ll send you a jiffy bag to put it in – again make sure you label this so that it’s clear you’d like the money to benefit us.
4) Then sit back safe in the knowledge that you’ve helped raise money for vital research into sudden infant death.

Arrange your own currency collection

Collecting foreign coins and notes from friends and neighbours is an easy way of raising money for FSID. Here are a few fundraising ideas to get you started:

• ask people at your local school, college, university, church or office to bring in all their foreign coins and notes
• ask your local travel agent, bank or post office if they would mind keeping a collecting tin next to where people buy or change foreign currency, so they can drop off unwanted coins and notes
• do you have a family member or friend who works for a large company? If so, refer them to our corporate website so that they can get involved.
