19 sailors, three peaks, one charity

19 sailors, three peaks, one charity

Nineteen sailors from Fareham's Command Training Group HMS COLLINGWOOD undertook the Three Peaks Challenge for FSID in September. This daunting task consists of climbing the three highest peaks in the UK (Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfel Pike in the Lake District and Mount Snowden in Wales) in just 24 hours.

The team took on the challenge in memory of one of their member’s sons, and it was no mean feat. Lieutenant Nobby Hall explains:

“We got up Ben Nevis and back down again quite quickly and our spirits were high, but by Scarfel Pike it was four in the morning and we were flagging. It was difficult in the dark and many of us struggled.

When we climbed Snowden it was bright sunshine. We were all exhausted but we remembered why we were doing it, dug our feet in and completed the challenge with nine minutes to spare.”

FSID would like to thank the team for their hard work and efforts for our cause.
