On the evening of Thursday 20th September 2007, Saudi Arabia-based FSID supporters Suzie Dunne and event co-organizer Fiona Pickard organized an adult “Back to School” Disco hosted by the British Women’s Group (BWG) in Jeddah.
Suzie decided to organize the event as a way of saying thank you to all the friends in Jeddah for the love and support given when their baby boy Zacary Dunne died earlier this year. In addition, she wanted to help raise both awareness and money for FSID in his memory.
The party was a great success thanks to the faithful attendance of what was jokingly called the “Jeddah Expat Academy” in reference to the theme of the evening, the DJ skills of Steve Ashton and the support of some heavy-duty companies who donated some much sought after raffle prizes, particularly BMI who sponsored the event and donated two return flights from Jeddah to London.
Other corporate supporters donated a flat screen television, DVD players, a karaoke machine, i-mate mobile phones, i-pods and a cappuccino machine. A number of hotel chains including Sheraton, Marriot, Hilton and Crown Plaza generously offered restaurant meals.
The evening raised an incredible total of over 23,500 Saudi Arabian Riyal which is equivalent to over £3,000!
FSID would like to thank Suzie, her co-organizer Fiona, the ladies at the BWG and all the teachers and pupils who attended the Jeddah Expat Academy Back to School Disco for their wonderful support.
