Mile in Memory 2008 was a huge success. We had more than sixty walks across the country that have raised over £70,000 and counting.
If you took part in Mile in Memory 2008 and would like to write a paragraph about your walk please send it to fundraising@fsid.org.uk and we will add it to this page.

Simon and Debbie Platt - walk in Jeskyns Country Wood in Cobham, Kent
Despite the rain we had a great time and people put a wet foot forward with a smile! Luckily we had a barn to hide in for lunch and time for few games with the kids. We had about 40 people take part, and should have made over £2000 when everyone pays in. I work in the community, and manage a project called Naturally Active which promotes healthy activities in green spaces in North West Kent, so we had access to a few bits of home comfort!
Jan Hodgkiss - walk in Stafford
All the group enjoyed our mile in memory walk, some of us walked back home too! The walk went from my parents' home to the local church where our son Thomas Michael is buried; this was also the church where Phil and I were married. While at Tommy's grave we all set to giving the stone a good clean up and tidy up of his garden. He was then ready for summer plants. They have come up quite well considering rabbits visit frequently! I felt content after the event; it helped me to work towards closure and bring the family together in memory of Tommy.
The Wiggins family - walk in Walton-on-Thames
(account by David and June Wiggins)
I am sure we walked several more than just one mile supporting a well-organised and well-attended event. This morning (18th May) my feet are continuing to acknowledge the fact that I completed the route.
Saturday afternoon was drizzly from the start at 'The Anglers'. The enthusiasm of all was not dampened by the weather and it was a very pleasant stroll along the Thames river bank chosen by Sami Wiggins enjoyed by a good number of walkers. It was an event for families too, with toddlers in push chairs, mums and dads and family pets all joining in.
Overcoming the tests of applying for local authority planning permission for the event could not phase Sami, our newly graduated primary school teacher currently looking for her first professional education job.
A well earned refreshment at 'The Minnow' was welcomed by all, (which I then found out was only at the halfway mark) and the collection boxes revealed that many had generously donated to the cause.
Thank you to everyone involved, your donation in time and effort and financial contribution is much appreciated, it was great.
