In High Spirits

In High Spirits

Read first time visitor to the Lake District and FSID Corporate Fundraising Intern, Emily Terrana's experience of the challenging Scafell Pike climb on a cold November day:

6.45 am

My alarm woke me as daylight was approaching. I packed my backpack, prepared to take whatever Mother Nature handed me.

7.30 am

A lovely English breakfast with the team to stock up on energy for the day ahead.

9.02 am

We set out with high hopes. The area was stunningly beautiful, and I was awed and humbled by the vastness of this region I was only just discovering.

11.34 am

As we ascended, breathtaking scenery gave way to the mysterious haziness of being inside a cloud. The wind was picking up and it was raining a bit. The path got steeper, but we continued on undaunted, lending one another a hand when it was needed.

13.09 pm

Though we were starting to tire, a glimmer of determination compelled us forward, and group morale remained high. As we neared the peak, my tired legs found a sudden burst of energy. With the wind whipping around me and raindrops stinging my face, I climbed the last few steps.

14.17 pm

As we gathered together, trying to find shelter from the wind, the cold and wet momentarily slipped away in our excitement. This eclectic group, with our fearless leader Captain Mead, had climbed Scafell Pike. It was a good feeling.

16.01 pm

We managed to make it down before dark, tired but happy.

19.28 pm

We gathered together in the local pub for a hearty dinner and reviewed the day's activities.

22.19 pm

I snuggled into my warm bed that night with a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. I had an amazing time on the trekking weekend and would recommend it to anyone. Peter Mead was very professional and well organised; he had managed to anticipate and prepare for any situation we came across. It was a truly brilliant trip from beginning to end!
