Further details for applicants
Aim
To allow research workers to visit and work in other specialist laboratories or research teams for short periods to acquire new technical skills which can be applied in their own work, to apply new methods of data analysis, to establish collaborative research not possible by other means or to undertake pilot studies in support of a more detailed application. The work must have relevance to sudden infant death. Meeting attendance does not fall within the scope of these fellowships.
Cost
A flexible approach will be adopted depending upon the need, justification and demand. Individual requests would not be expected to exceed £5,000. A training fellowship typically lasts from six weeks to six months.
Application procedure
Applicants should fill in the form available to download and return by post to Professor George Haycock at FSID with a letter from the institution of work approving the placement and leave of absence (if relevant), subject to an award being made. Evidence of endorsement by the host institution (where relevant) should also be submitted.
Process of selection
The awards will be made at the discretion of the Chairman of the Grant Review Panel following consultation with appropriate members of the Grant Review Panel and other external experts as necessary.
Report
The award is conditional upon the submission of a detailed report of achievements and limitations to FSID within one month of completion of the research/visit. It is also expected that, where possible, the findings should be submitted for publication.
